Past Hosta Tea Gardens

2017 Hosta Teas

Hosta Teas are an opportunity for members' to visit and socialize in other members' gardens. Gardens are usually open for three hours between 1pm and 4pm during an afternoon. Just drop in and take a look at the garden and its plants. Light refreshments are available throughout and when possible somewhere to sit and gossip is provided.

We had some fabulous gardens in 2017.

June:
The garden of Peg Riexinger in Lancaster

A 20-acre property with gardens surrounding the house, filled with a variety of shade perennials such as hosta, astilbe, iris, lavender, daisies and more.  Beyond the house is a woodland area leading to a large fire pit area and then over a mile of walking trails … making their way through meadows with wildflowers, evergreens and a larger woodland area.  Easy access.

July:
The garden of Geoff & Sue McCreary in Northeast, PA (we’ll make it an excursion!)

Our garden started about 18 years ago and we’ve continued to add to it over the years.  Geoff has made several structural pieces in the yard and most recently added a “swinging bridge” over a small stream and ravine.  The property sits above 16-mile creek so there is always the sound of running water.  We are working on creating a woodland garden. This garden has recently been archived in the Smithsonian.

August:
(no tea - Garden Writers Convention)

September:
The garden of Barbara Evans in Williamsville

A small garden with collections of hosta, epimediums, perennial geraniums, clematis and conifers. Newly renovated areas contrast with older established plantings.  Registered as an NWF Bird-Friendly Habitat.  Level, but not wheelchair or stroller accessible.  Good all season.
